A GONG FOR EVERYONE!
Seven Members competed at Mattersey and they all collected a medal or two or three, or four in Marianne’s case. Plus, for some a personal best score meant promotion into a higher class.
It was a cold day and too many layers of clothing made it uncomfortable to shoot, but it did not seem to matter – everyone excelled!
The event was held on 2 May so apologies for the delay in this item not being published sooner, but a hic-up with the Mattersey website meant the scores were not available until now.
Timed & Precision 1 S-B Now in X class with the big boys, Marianne did very well and scored 295 just 3 points behind the winner.
Mmm – what happened then?
While in B class Rob S, Simon B and Jason were all bunched together near the bottom after suffering malfunctions – why do things only go wrong in competitions?
Timed & Precision 1 C-F Jim was having one of those rosy days when nothing went wrong and shot a PB to win X class with 300/25, Dave suffered a case of twitching and pushed two into the 9 ring. Rob S came second in A class with a 299 (saying he is saving a 300 for Bisley)
Marianne pleased with her score……………................…… and to have beaten Dave
Also second was Marianne in B class, and was happy with a 299, but annoyed that dad beat her on X count. Jason was close behind coming third.
Multi-Target S-B Rob managed third place with Simon, competing for the first time, in fourth even with gun problems. Jason was having his share of problems too and failed to get any shots off in stage three.
Multi-Target C-F Jim’s success continued when he shot another PB to be joint winner of X class with a maximum 120. Pete was third in A class and Marianne came third in B class, beating Jason – again.
1500 S-B
No wonder they are all happy – they’ve all just won their class
Jim scored a respectable 1474 but no medal as he was the only X class shooter there. Dave shot near to a PB and won A class with 1468 (best for some time). Marianne was over the moon with 1449, easily her best ever score to win C class.
1500 C-F There was only Dave and Jim in A class and it was close, but Jim triumphed by eight points. In B class Pete was doing well and a PB of 1480 got him first place.
Rob should have done better than third in D class but that is what happens when you don’t fire all you shots.
1500 LBR Jim shot better than usual and won A class with 1453.
Fun shoot While we were waiting for the results to be calculated a log cutting shoot was put on. Marianne was nominated Captain and picked the teams and their names. So it was the more elderly members versus the youngest. Derby OAPs and the Derby Lumberjacks! It was great fun with both teams doing well, but not well enough.
The very enthusiastic Lumberjacks flew off the starting line and cut the wood in just over 16 seconds only to be runners up by three tenths of a second! The OAPs were only a couple of seconds behind them.
Summary It is always great when everyone collects a prize otherwise the journey home can be embarrassing. Jim was satisfied to have shot five events and won five (only 3 medals though)
and Marianne seemed pleased with her days success.
While making lunch, Pete’s Mobile BBQ nearly set fire to ANOTHER car

Simon and Jason were both shooting at Mattersey for the first time and winning medals too
