DRPC 1999 NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2009

Dear Member,

Once again we are at the end of the shooting year. The committee has continued to improve the facilities at the shooting range. Heaters for the 25 metre firing point have been purchased and are due to be installed within the next few weeks. Sand for the banks has been purchased and is to be placed on the backstops. Work has been carried out on the back stop. Members have continued to represent the club at various shoulder to shoulder shoots around the country and in postal shoots and have continued to achieve high standards within all disciplines. The club has continued to grow in membership. Our Club Membership Officer, Jim Smith, has continued to work hard and ensure that new members are inducted as soon as possible.

Range standing orders and R.O. duties.
Members need to ensure that they are well aware of the range standing orders and the constitution. Can I remind members of their individual commitment to carry out range duties. The range rota for 2010 has been placed on the 25 metre point. Amendments to the constitution and range standing orders will be circulated with the agenda being sent to all members during December ready for the AGM in January.

Work Party.
The recent work party managed to carry out work on replacing some tiering on the backstop. Dates for the work parties for 2010 will be being placed on the club website and on notices around the club.

Christmas shoot, AGM and Club Dinner.
There will be a Christmas shoot on Sunday 13th December - if you wish to participate please bring a wrapped present - at Christmas everybody gets a prize!
The AGM will be held on Sunday 17th January 2010 commencing at 10:00AM. I will be sending out all the relevant information in December 2009.
The Club Dinner has been arranged for the 28th January 2010 at the Red Chilli Indian restaurant. Our PR officer Peter Breheny is organising this event and can be contacted on 01335 344444 for bookings.

Security & signing in book
Could members ensure that they wear their I.D.Cards at all times and be prepared to challenge anybody not wearing one. Members are forgetting to sign in the log books situated in the lounge area by the phone. These are the main books that I check to ensure that members have completed their required visits under legislation. These therefore need to be signed as well as the range book as you enter. Members who have completed their signing in forms can find a new form in the box on the wall by the door to the lounge.

If members have any concerns or issues they wish to raise at the monthly committee meetings, contact can be made with any of the committee members whose names and telephone numbers can be found on the notice board in the lounge.

I wish all members good shooting for the remainder of 2009 and look forward to seeing you at the AGM on the 17th January.

DRPC 1999 NEWSLETTER JULY 2009

Dear Member,

We are already halfway through the shooting year. The committee has continued to improve the facilities of the shooting range - turning targets on the 25 metre range are now in situ, the ceiling on the 25 metre range has been re-plastered and new lights have been fitted. Membership has continued to grow - we now have 110 full members with our full complement of probationary members. DRPC 1999’s recent 1500 comp was a great success with over 70 entries being received. Many thanks to the organisers, and all those who gave their time helping out at the event. There is no doubt that the club has given a good impression to all visiting shooters on our facilities and on the way the competition was run. The club had great success at Bisley with a number of new members attending the shoot. Pat Pritchett set a new British and Phoenix record in LBP, the club won 6 Gold, 5 silver and 1 bronze, and picked up 3 grand master medals - congratulations to all those who did well.

Image
Congratulations to Dave Holt and Jim Smith who shot for Great Britain in Ireland and won the team event against Germany and Ireland. Jim Smith also won the 1500 event with Dave Holt coming second, a great win for Great Britain and DRPC1999!

Range standing orders & R.O. duties.
Members need to ensure that they are well aware of the range standing orders and the constitution. Can I remind members of their individual commitment to carry out range duties. There is a shortage of Range officers for August - members who have not done so please put your names down as soon as possible. Members who participated as R.O’s in the DRPC 1999 open shoot this year will also be able to credit this as one R.O.

Work Party.
The recent work party was a great success with more than 20 members attending, congratulations to all those who gave their time and energy - this enabled the club to make good progress on the turning targets on the 25 metre range.

AGM, Christmas shoot and Club Dinner.
The AGM will be held on Sunday 17th January 2010 commencing at 10:00AM. I will be sending out all the relevant information in December 2009. There will be a Christmas shoot in December and a Club Dinner after Christmas. Dates are yet to be announced - please keep an eye on the club website and notice boards.

Security.
Could members ensure that they wear their I.D.Cards at all times and be prepared to challenge anybody not wearing one.

Probationary members.
Probationary members need to ensure that they complete their visits within the probationary period - there is a large waiting list. There are concerns that this is being held up and I will in future write to members who have gone over the time limit and terminate their membership.

Fishing Pond
The fishing Pond is not part of DRPC 1999 and is therefore private and out of bounds to members.

If members have any concerns or issues they wish to raise at the monthly committee meetings, contact can be made with any of the committee members whose names and telephone numbers can be found on the notice board in the lounge.

I wish all members good shooting for the remainder of 2009 and look forward to seeing you at the club over the coming months.

K.C.Robinson.

March 6th 2009

DRPC 1999 MARCH 2009 NEWSLETTER.

Dear Member,

We are already almost at the end of the first quarter of the shooting year. The committee has continued to improve the facilities of the shooting range and you will have no doubt experienced the electronic shutters that have been installed on the A range. We are awaiting the arrival of turning targets that will also be fitted on the A range and result in all shooting bays having a turning target. The committee has recently agreed to a further three year development plan which looks to continue to develop the facilities for members. I have pinned this on the board in the dining area for your information. I would like to draw your attention to the following points-

Range standing orders & R.O. duties.
You will soon receive amendments to the range standing orders; please insert these in your range standing order book. If you do not have a copy please contact the new members officer Jim Smith who will provide you with one.
Can I remind members that they need to ensure that they carry out their two Range Officer duties for the year; the Range Officer rota board is located on the firing point on A range. Please put your name down as soon as possible.
Could range officers also ensure that they put the date, visitors/ probationary members name and their own signature on the front of the brown envelope after putting in money collected.

Telephones.
Members have been answering mobile calls whilst on the firing point. This creates a distraction for other shooters and has implications for safety on the range. The committee has decided that in future if a member receives a call on a mobile and they wish to answer it they should unload and make safe their rifle or pistol and leave the firing point to answer the call.

Samples of targets.
Our target officer Dave Thelfall has made up two folders which show the type of targets that the club sells, one folder is located in the lounge area which should not be removed, and one will be in the target cupboard and can be viewed by request to the Range Officer on duty. The target officer is happy to look at any other requests for alternative targets and will be happy to discuss this with members.

Shooting Black powder pistols.
Can I remind members that when cocking a pistol to fire, this should be done with the non-shooting hand with the pistol pointing in a safe direction.

I.D. Cards.
The committee have decided to issue a new I.D. card for all members. The new membership officer Jim smith will be co-ordinating this. Could members please obtain two passport photographs, write your name on the back and place them in an envelope that has been pinned on the notice board in the lounge area.

Shooting of Targets.
Targets are being shot at below the target line which is causing damage to the frames and invariably means more cost to the club of replacing them. Could members please be more careful when shooting to keep out of this area which is clearly marked on the target frame.
When finishing shooting please remove the shot target and place it in the appropriate rubbish bin. Our target frame officer Simon Walters spent several hours on one occasion just removing old targets left on the frames.

Rifle Scopes.
The committee has recently purchased new rifle scopes, these have now been fitted to all the club rifles.

Shooter instructors Course.
The NRA is holding a two day instructor course at Bisley on the 4th & 5th April. The committee are willing to pay for the cost of the course, accommodation and expenses for any member willing to attend. On successful completion of the course recognised certification will be awarded. Any member interested please contact either Nigel Waring or myself.

If members have any concerns or issues they wish to be raised at the monthly committee meetings contact can be made with any committee member whose names and telephone numbers can be found on the notice board in the lounge area.

Finally this will be the last news letter that I will be sending out in the post. All future ones will be placed on the club web site or emailed to members who have provided me with their contact email numbers. The only correspondence being sent out in future will be all information pertaining to the annual club AGM. Members who do not have a password to access information from the club web site can obtain this by contacting the club web master Jim Smith.

I wish all members good shooting for 2009 and look forward to seeing you at the club over the coming months.

K.C.Robinson.
Secretary DRPC 1999

18th January 2009.

Dear Member,

At the AGM held on the 11th January 2009 it was agreed that the full fees for 2009 would remain at £165.00, and OAP and Junior rates for membership would also remain the same. I would be grateful if you could pay your club fees by the 14th February 2009 and failure to do so will result in automatic termination of membership.

I would like to draw the following issues to your attention:-

Range Rota.
The range rota for 2009 is located on the 25 metre firing point. May I remind members that failure to do the 2 R.O. duties required will result in a penalty of £50.00 per missed session.

I.D.Cards.
Members need to ensure that they are wearing their I.D. cards at all times - failure to do so will result in you being asked to leave the range.

Taking Rifles or pistols into the lounge and dining areas.
Members who wish either to do work on their rifle or pistol, or to show it to another member in these areas firstly need to obtain the permission of the Range Officer.

Workmen on the Range.
Please be aware that during the late part of January new electrically powered roller shutters are to be installed on A range. No shooting will be allowed on A range and perhaps B range while these are fitted, which should only take two days. Hopefully, if we get enough advance warning, a notice will be posted on the website saying when they are being fitted.

Once installed and before using them please take time to carefully read the instructions on how to operate them, or they could be damaged.

I look forward to meeting members over the coming 12 months. If you have any queries or wish to raise an issue with the committee please do not hesitate to contact me on 01332 571851. Alternatively, you can contact any other committee member and the telephone numbers of all committee members can be found on the board in the lounge area.

DRPC 1999 September 2008 NEWSLETTER

Dear Member,

Already we are in the latter part of the year and the nights are beginning to draw in. During 2008 DRPC 1999 has continued to grow in strength of membership with many new prospective members waiting in the wings. The committee welcome all new members and hope that the next few years are as productive for them as the last few have been.

This year has seen a strong representation by members who have attended many shoulder-to-shoulder competitions at Bisley and other ranges around the country. There has also been an increase in the participation of postal competitions by club members with great success. Much credit goes to Peter B who has been involved in the organising, ensuring that the shot targets are sent back on time and members meet the deadlines

The Club held its annual 1500 which once again was organised by the famous three Jim S, Pete L & Dave H, which saw over 70 entries. The event was a great success with many other members contributing on the day. Congratulations to all who helped out.

The committee has continued to work for the benefit of the club, good management and accounting has ensured that the club finances are in a healthy position.

The committee has recently agreed to the purchase of two banks of turners on the 25 metre range; it is hoped that by the end of next year we will have a third bank in place, thus ensuring even better facilities.

Jim S has continued to ensure that new applicants are processed as soon as possible, along with our safety officer David H, who ensured that all relevant training occurs in R.O. duties and safety handling on the 200 point.

R.O. duties.
Members will be aware that part of the agreement to becoming a member of DRPC 1999 is to carry out R.O. duties. The ethos of the club is to encourage new members who have not previously shot to experience shooting a variety of rifles, to enhance their handling abilities and to give members a choice to shoot different calibre rifles. We are unusual in this as many other clubs do not provide this facility.

At present there are a number of members who have not put their names on the rota. I would remind you all that failure to complete an RO duty under the constitution will result in an added payment of £50.00 per missed RO. It is also the responsibility of a member to put your name down for an RO duty and then if you find you are unable to attend, it is your responsibility to contact another RO officer to take your place.

A calendar for RO duties can be found on the 25 metre range, could members put their names down as soon as possible.

Raking of banks and cleaning of shooting bays
As soon as you have finished shooting please rake the sand in the bank at the back of the target and ensure all spent rifle cases are swept up around the shooting bay.

Cleaning of Club Rifles.
Members need to ensure that they clean club rifles after use - there are now two bore pull throughs that can be obtained from the RO after shooting.

25 Metre range lighting.
The nights are now drawing in, can I remind members and R.O’s that if you are shooting on the 25 metre range an extra fee of £1.00 is now required to pay for the external and internal lighting.

Security.
Could members please be aware of any suspicious cars or people on the range, or in the range complex. Members should be wearing ID badges. If someone is not and you are either unsure or do not recognise them, please challenge them.

E - Mail Addresses.
Any member who has not given me their e-mail address can do so by emailing me on The more e-mail addresses I have for members, the less the cost will be to the club in sending out correspondence. Members can also register their email address with the webmaster so they will receive information via massmail. Can I remind members if they change their address or telephone number please let me know.

Free Equipment.
Over the last 12 months a number of items (furniture etc) have been kindly donated to the club. Whilst the committee welcome any freebies they would be grateful that members first informed them as it may well be there is no use for the items being kindly donated

Some dates for your diary:-

Annual dinner – Our PR officer Peter B will again be arranging a club meal to be held after Christmas, please look on the boards and website for further information

Christmas shoot.
There will be a Christmas shoot on the 14th December 2008 commencing at
10:00 AM. For new members this is a fun shoot where everyone who participates wins! All members need to do is bring a wrapped prize of any description. You can bring guests if you wish. There will be the nominal fee of £5:00 to cover insurance. Mince pies will be available (I will remember to bring them this time!)

AGM 10tht January 2008 – All relevant documentation will be sent out during the month of December. Nominations for committee positions will be placed on the board during December.

Any items for the agenda will need to be sent to me by the 26th of December – no more after this date please.

I look forward to seeing members on the range over the coming months – good shooting.

DRPC 1999 CHRISTMAS 2007 NEWSLETTER

Dear Member,

The end of the year is once agin upon us. During 2007 DRPC 1999 has continued to grow in strength of membership with many new prospective members waiting in the wings. The committee welcome all new members and hope that the next few years are as productive for them as the last few have been to the club.

This year has seen a strong representation by members who have attended many shoulder-to-shoulder competitions at Bisley and other ranges around the country. There has also been an increase in the participation of postal competitions by members of the club with great success. Congratulations to all members who won medals in these events.

Much credit must go to Peter Breheny who has ensured that the shot targets have been delivered on time and has been very enthusiastic throughout.

The old school has continued to do well Ben Boreham, Pete Lomas, Dave Holt, Simon Walters & Nigel Waring to name but a few; if I have missed anyone my apologies – the list is getting larger over the years!.

The development of the 50 metre range has now been completed and shooting is occurring on a regular basis on the range; this has alleviated the difficulties the club was having on Sundays and enables all shooters to have a better choice of which range they want to shoot on.

R.O. duties.

Members will be aware that part of the agreement to becoming a member of DRPC 1999 is to carry out R.O. duties. DRPC 1999 NEWSLETTER- MAY 2007

I would like to take the opportunity to welcome all new members who have joined the club over the last six months, the membership and the waiting list continues to grow!

We are now fast moving towards having 100 full members, we are already well over that number with probationary members at present.

The development of the 50 metre range has now been completed. Unfortunately due to some difficulties in present policy the committee is unable to allow shooting at 50 metres; hopefully this will be resolved within the next few weeks. The committee will keep you informed on this issue. Needless to say there is much frustration at present.

DRPC 1999 has been well represented over the last 6 months both at shoulder to shoulder shoots and in postal shoots. The success has been of a high standard. Congratulations to all members who have won trophies in the various shooting competitions.

Many thanks to all club members who turned up for the work party, a tremendous amount of work was carried out on the day.

Could members please ensure that when they have finished shooting that the bay they used is swept and the bank raked accordingly.

Members need to ensure that they are familiar with the Range standing orders and the Club constitution; there have been a number of occasions when members have brought guests to the club without proper authorisation from the club secretary.

Signing log sheets and disclaimer forms can be located either in the box on the wall in the lounge area near the entrance to the shooting range. If this is empty there are more forms in the small filing cabinet in the club office.

NO SMOKING LAW – members need to be aware that as from the 1st July 2007 under new legislation no smoking is allowed within the club house.

This news letter will be the last sent out by post to members who have email. In future all news letters will be posted on the mail board or placed on the web site.
Members who are unable to access at present will be sent the news letter by post; however this will only be until the end of December2007.

DRPC 1999 CHRISTMAS 2006 NEWSLETTER

Dear Member,

The end of the year is once again upon us. During 2006 DRPC 1999 has continued to grow in strength of membership with many new prospective members waiting in the wings. The committee welcome all new members and hope that the next few years are as productive for them as the last few have been to the club.

This year has seen a strong representation by members who have attended many shoulder-to-shoulder competitions at Bisley and other ranges around the country.

Two members David and Rob have been selected for the Great Britain Team; this has ensured that the name of DRPC 1999 is spread even further afield. Success has also been most noticeable amongst the newcomers – who it could be argued are not so new now. Rob , Simone , Ben ,Simon and Paul to name but a few. The older members have also been successful Jim , Pete , Chris , Mark have all been successful in a variety of competitions. Peter , who has organised a number of postal competitions, has also recorded success with the teams he has entered – congratulations to all.

The committee has worked extremely hard in its endeavours to provide better facilities. The development of the 50 metre range has continued throughout the year – this is now complete; however we are still awaiting the fine details regarding the future granting of range safety certificates. It is hoped that the 50 metre range will be up and running by early 2007, This will increase our facility. The next development will be the 200 point bullet catcher which will result in the existing safety arrangements becoming redundant. The Home Office have confirmed that future safety certification of all ranges is now the remit of the NRA & NSRA; this will speed up the certification of the 50 metre range.

There have been a few occasions where members have not turned up, which has resulted in probationary members (some who have travelled a long distance) being unable to shoot.

Ranking of banks and cleaning of shooting bays
As soon as you have finished shooting please rake the sand in the bank at the back of the target and ensure all spent rifle cases are swept up around the shooting bay.

Cleaning of Club Rifles.
Members needs to ensure that they clean club rifles after use - there are now two bore pull throughs that can be obtained from the RO after shooting.

Use of Club Ammunition
Once club ammunition is obtained from the RO it must be shot – no live ammunition can be saved until the next time a member visits – this practice causes too many complications for the club. Club ammunition must not be taken off the range or put in a member’s pocket - it must be left on the firing point at all times.

New Gate
A new gate has been constructed on the entrance of the second car park; drivers need to slow down when coming around the corner into the car park in case it is not open. Members who are last to leave the car park need to ensure that it is locked before they leave. The key to open the gate is the same key used to gain entrance at the front gate.

E - mail Addresses.
Any member who has not given me their e-mail address can do so by emailing me on The more e-mail addresses I have for members, the less the cost will be to the club in sending out correspondence. Members can also have their address placed with the club website for information via massmail. IT IS ALSO IMPORTANT TO INFORM ME IF YOU CHANGE YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS or any other personal details. Many thanks to all members who have given their free time in the development of the 50 metre range, in particular Simon Walters, who has come up time and again in providing heavy equipment at either reduced or no cost to the club. This has enabled the club to finish most of the 50 metre range. Turning targets for the 50 metre range have been purchased and are in the country – these will be put onto the range within the next few weeks.

It is hoped that we will be able to obtain an appropriate safety certificate by the end of August. Over the last 6 months there has been discussion between the Home Office, military, NSRA & NRA regarding who in the future will issue range safety certificates – until this is resolved the club is unable to use the 50 metre range or shoot solid slug on the 200 point range. I will keep members informed of developments.

Congratulations to club members who have attended the various shoulder to shoulder shoots at Bisley and other clubs around the country and have ensured that the name of DRPC 1999 carries some weight! I refer of course to the old lags, David Holt, Jim Smith, Pete Lomas and the new kids on the block Rob Hufton, Simon Walters and Benjamin Boreham to name but a few.

Success has also been had in postal competitions with Peter Breheny’s team winning a gold medal. This is most encouraging for the club and I hope we continue in this vein.

At present there are at least 32 members who have not put their names on the RO rota – this has meant that the majority of slots for August, September, October November & December remain unfilled. I would urge you to fill these gaps as soon as possible otherwise probationary members will be unable to shoot. Members need to be reminded that failure to complete an RO duty under the constitution will result in an added payment of £50.00 per missed RO.

Range flags for 50, 100 and 200 firing points – There have been a number of incidents where flags have been left flying at the front of the range and on the various flag points around the range when shooting has ceased. Could you please ensure that all the danger flags are put away after shooting ceases?

All the hand flags are now in tubes, members need to ensure that these are placed back in the tubes after firing on the range has ceased.

Web Site – It would be helpful if as many members as possible provide our web master Jim Smith with details of their e-mail address. This will enable letters to be sent to members and will save on the club’s postal costs; there is still a large proportion of club members who have not provided me with their e-mail address. For those who have not yet done so, I would be grateful if you could let me have a contact address as soon as possible

DRPC 1999 NEWSLETTER –FEBRUARY 2006

Dear member,

The committee would like to welcome all the new members who have joined DRPC 1999 over the last six months and congratulate probationary members who have now become fully fledged members. Our membership continues to grow. Our safety officer David Holt has continued to work hard and ensure that new applicants are brought into the club as soon as possible.

Image

The 50 metre range is nearing completion and it is hoped that it will be completed and passed for shooting by May at the latest.

For members who are interested in attending shoulder to shoulder shoots, Rob, Pete, Jim and Dave are just some of the members who are willing to give advice and help in developing skills around competition shooting.

Jim will be involved in continue to develop and add news on the club website; any member wishing to have information posted on the site should contact Jim. The website can be assessed by typing in drpc1999.com Fees for 2006. At the AGM held in January fees were increased to £150.00 per year, these need to be paid to the Treasurer, Ash by the end of the month. There will be no extension of payment unless otherwise discussed and agreed by the Treasurer.

R.O Duties. Could members please ensure that they place their name on the RO duty calendar as soon as possible. Members need to be aware that it is part of the club’s constitution that they carry out two RO duties per year. Failure to do so attracts an extra £50.00 per RO duty which will be attached to next year’s fees.

It will help if Club Members register on the new website, you can do this at the top of the right hand menu in "creating an account". I would then be able to use the mass mail system to send one off announcements and the newsletters.

E-mail Address.
Could members who have an email address fill in the slip below and either send it to me at ‘Cornerstones’, 17 Braiding Close, Alvaston , Derby DE24 OUW, or E-mail it to me on

Good shooting for 2006.

Dear Member,

The end of the year is once agin upon us. During 2007 DRPC 1999 has continued to grow in strength of membership with many new prospective members waiting in the wings.

R.O. duties.
Members will be aware that part of the agreement to becoming a member of DRPC 1999 is to carry out R.O. duties.

DRPC 1999 JULY 2006 NEWS LETTER

Dear Member,

We are once again in the second part of the shooting calendar. The club has continued to grow in membership both on a full and probationary basis. The committee would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new members since the beginning of 2006.

The committee have worked extremely hard in their endeavours, not only to provide better facilities, but also tighten up procedural and constitutional issues.

Signing in books. Members are signing the log book on the range, but are forgetting the log book in the lounge - please ensure that both are signed.

Some dates for your diaries:-

AGM 21st January 2006. – All relevant documentation will be sent out during the month of December.

Club Competitions Our comp officer Rob Hufton will be hosting a number of inter club competitions throughout the year, a gallery rifle comp is planned for August, keep your eye on the various notice boards and the club web site.

Xmas Shoot. - This will be held on December 3rd commencing at 10:00AM. A buffet will be provided and all club trophies won during the year will be presented.

Xmas meal – Our PR officer Peter Breheny will be arranging a club Xmas meal. Please look on the boards and web site for further information

Friends & Family Visit Sunday 17th September 2006 12noon - 2PM. Please bring friends and family to have a shoot - all are welcome.

Eden Camp visit – Peter Breheny is organising a visit to Eden Camp near York; this is an interesting complex with much to see; watch the club boards for further details and costs.

I look forward to seeing members on the range over the coming months – good shooting

R.O. duties.
Members will be aware that part of the agreement to becoming a member of DRPC 1999 is to carry out R.O. duties. Ranking of banks and cleaning of shooting bays

R.O. duties.
Members will be aware that part of the agreement to becoming a member of DRPC 1999 is to carry out R.O. duties.
